Natural stone is quarried rather than manufactured, which means every piece is genuinely unique and no production run can be exactly repeated. Choosing a stone

Density and porosity vary enormously between stones, and they decide where each one belongs. Denser stones handle wet and high-traffic areas well; softer, more porous stones are better on walls and in lower-traffic rooms. Split-face and ledger panels are a different proposition again: they build a deeply textured feature wall and are popular around fireplaces and on accent walls. Sealing and maintenance

All natural stone should be sealed on installation and resealed periodically. Clean it with a pH-neutral stone cleaner rather than a general-purpose household cleaner, and keep acidic liquids off polished calcareous stone. Handled that way, stone outlives most of the materials around it.

Where stone is used
