LED medicine cabinet or a plain mirror door
This is the first decision, because it changes the electrical work. An LED medicine cabinet needs power behind the wall. A mirror-door cabinet does not.
What the LED models add
The lit cabinets in this range carry a front-mirror light, a touch sensor for dimming and brightness, and a memory function that holds your last setting. Most add a built-in defogger that clears the mirror after a shower. On the Blossom LED medicine cabinets the defogger runs on an on/off switch with a 45 to 60 minute auto shut-off, the frame is anodized anti-corrosion aluminum, and the LED is rated for 50,000 hours with 100,000 touch-switch cycles. The iStyle LED-AMC series is rated at roughly 120,000 hours and gives you three color temperatures to pick from at installation: warm white 3000K, white 4000K and daylight 6000K.
If you shave, apply make-up or read labels at the mirror, the lit models do real work. Mirror lighting sits at eye level and fills shadow that a ceiling fixture leaves under the chin and brow. The iStyle Ana series goes further with a 3x magnifying LED panel, lighting inside the cabinet as well as outside, a three-hole electrical outlet and a reset button.
When a mirror-door cabinet is the better call
Twenty-two of the cabinets here have no lighting. They fit three situations: a powder room or guest bath that already has good vanity lighting, a retrofit where there is no circuit behind the wall, and a budget-led project where the storage matters more than the light. The Blossom MC7 and MC8 aluminum cabinets still give you two adjustable 8mm tempered glass shelves, a beveled-edge door, three-way adjustable 110-degree soft-close hinges and mirrors on both the door and the back wall, with an IP44-rated anodized aluminum frame. They install with a left-hand or right-hand swing, and the mounting hardware for both surface and recessed fitting ships in the box.
Recessed or surface mount
Almost every cabinet in this range installs either way, so the choice is about the wall, not the product. Recessed sets the cabinet into the stud cavity and leaves the door nearly flush. Surface mount hangs it on the finished wall and projects about five inches into the room.
Rough-in sizes to confirm before you cut
A recessed opening is always slightly smaller than the cabinet, so the frame has something to sit against. These are the measurements published for the models we stock.
| Model | Surface mount | Recessed opening |
|---|---|---|
| iStyle LED-AMC 18 in. | 18 in. W x 27-1/2 in. H x 5 in. D | 17-1/2 in. W x 27 in. H x 3-3/4 in. D |
| iStyle LED-AMC 36 in. | 36 in. W x 27-1/2 in. H x 5 in. D | 35-1/2 in. W x 27 in. H x 3-3/4 in. D |
| iStyle LED Ana 20 in. | 20 in. W x 32 in. H x 5 in. D | 19-1/2 in. W x 31-1/4 in. H x 3-3/4 in. D |
| Blossom Capella 30 in. | 30 in. W x 32 in. H x 5-1/4 in. D | 29-1/2 in. W x 31-1/4 in. H x 4 in. D |
| Blossom Canopus 60 in. | 60 in. W x 32 in. H x 5-1/4 in. D | 59-1/2 in. W x 31-1/4 in. H x 4 in. D |
What stops a recessed install
Standard interior framing gives you about 3-1/2 inches of cavity depth between studs, which suits the 3-3/4 inch and 4 inch rough-in depths above once the drywall thickness is counted. Three things rule it out: a load-bearing wall you cannot cut, plumbing or ductwork in the bay, and a stud spacing narrower than the opening. Wide cabinets such as the 48, 60 and 72 inch models cross studs, so recessing them means framing work. If any of that applies, surface mount the same cabinet and nothing else about the specification changes. Our installation service page covers how we handle the site survey.
Getting the width right
The common rule is to keep the cabinet no wider than the vanity below it, and to centre it on the sink rather than on the wall. On a double vanity you have two options: one wide cabinet spanning both basins, or a pair of narrower cabinets, one over each sink.
| Vanity width | Typical cabinet width | Where to look |
|---|---|---|
| 20 to 24 in. | 12 to 20 in. | 24 inch vanities |
| 30 in. | 20 to 30 in. | 30 inch vanities |
| 36 in. | 24 to 36 in. | 36 inch vanities |
| 48 in. | 30 to 48 in. | 48 inch vanities |
| 60 in. double | 60 in., or two cabinets at 24 to 30 in. | 60 inch vanities |
| 72 in. and wider | 72 in., or two cabinets at 30 to 36 in. | 72 inch vanities and 80 inch vanities |
Height matters less, because most of these cabinets sit between 26 and 32 inches tall and the install height is set by the mirror line rather than the product. The usual starting point is the top of the cabinet level with the top of the door casing in the room, which also keeps the light panel above eye level.
The three brands on this page
Blossom
Blossom accounts for 51 of the 76 cabinets, split into 34 LED models, 9 aluminum mirror-door cabinets and 8 others including the Milan and Monaco ranges and a 12 inch wall cabinet. The LED series are named after stars: Asta, Canopus, Capella, Castor, Pillar, Pollux, Regulus, Rigel, Sirius, Spica and Vega. They share a specification. Each is ETL certified and IP44 rated, uses CRI 90+ light at 8500K, mounts surface or recessed, carries a built-in defogger with auto shut-off, and holds three adjustable 8mm tempered glass shelves behind a full-mirrored interior. Doors use a concealed finger-pull with soft-close hinges and grooved edges. The Sirius models add a clock to the mirror face. Browse the full Blossom bathroom range in Blossom bathroom products.
iStyle
iStyle supplies 22 cabinets in five families: Ana (7), Model 3 (5), LED Aluminum (4), Aluminum (5) and Alicia (1). The lit models run on 110V wiring, use copper-free mirror glass, Blum soft-close hinges and full-overlay mirrored doors that open to 108 degrees, and are UL and CUL certified with a 3 year limited warranty on the electronic components. The Model 3 cabinets use a tempered mirror described by the manufacturer as five times stronger than standard glass and add a temperature clock. See the wider line in iStyle bathroom products.
Lexora
Three Lexora cabinets sit in this collection, all LED with a built-in defogger. Bracciano comes in single and double door versions at 5.1 inches deep across six size combinations. Lesina is a triple-door unit with a backlit multifunction display and published light output: 4,725 lumens at 60 by 36 inches, 4,088 at 48 by 36, 4,499 at 60 by 32 and 3,883 at 48 by 32. Savera offers three light colors with a dimmer and eight size combinations at 5.7 inches deep. The rest of the line is in Lexora bathroom products and Lexora vanities.
Mirror glass, hinges and shelves
Three construction details separate a cabinet that still looks right in year five from one that does not.
| Detail | What to look for | In this range |
|---|---|---|
| Mirror backing | Copper-free silver, which resists the black edge creep that humidity causes | Blossom, iStyle and Lexora all specify copper-free mirror |
| Frame | Anodized aluminum rather than painted steel | Blossom LED and MC series use anodized anti-corrosion aluminum, IP44 rated |
| Hinges | Soft-close, three-way adjustable, wide opening angle | iStyle uses Blum soft-close at 108 degrees; Blossom MC hinges open to 110 degrees and adjust in three directions |
| Shelves | Adjustable tempered glass, not fixed plastic | 8mm tempered glass throughout; three shelves on the Blossom LED series, two on MC7 and MC8 |
| Interior finish | Mirrored back wall, which makes a shallow cabinet read deeper | Full-mirrored interior on the Blossom LED series; mirrored door and back wall on MC7 and MC8 |
Defoggers, color temperature and controls
A defogger is a heating pad bonded behind the mirror. It warms the glass so condensation never forms on it, which is why a defogged cabinet is clear the moment you step out of the shower while the rest of the room is still steamed. On the Blossom LED series it runs on its own on/off control and shuts itself off after 45 to 60 minutes. On the iStyle LED models the defogging function shares the touch sensor with dimming, brightness and memory.
Color temperature decides how the room reads. 3000K is warm and flattering but shifts skin tone slightly; 4000K is neutral and the safest pick for a shared family bathroom; 6000K daylight is the most accurate for make-up and shaving and the harshest for everything else. The iStyle LED cabinets let you choose at installation. The Blossom LED series is fixed at 8500K with adjustable brightness. CRI matters as much as temperature: everything lit on this page is CRI 90 or above, which is the threshold at which colors stop looking washed out under the light.
Certifications and warranty
Anything wired into a bathroom wall should carry a safety listing. The Blossom LED cabinets are ETL certified and IP44 rated, which covers splashing water from any direction. The iStyle LED cabinets carry UL and CUL certificates. On warranty, iStyle publishes a 3 year limited warranty on electronic components, excluding glass and mirror, installation damage, labor and shipping. Blossom publishes a one year warranty on the MC7 and MC8 aluminum cabinets. Confirm the current terms for the model you choose before ordering, because manufacturers revise them.
Six steps to a shortlist
- Measure the vanity width and the clear wall above it, then set your maximum cabinet width.
- Decide lit or unlit, which tells you whether an electrician is in scope.
- Check the wall. Open the cavity or tap for studs and confirm there is no plumbing or ducting in the bay before committing to recessed.
- Pick the mount. If recessed is out, surface mount the same model.
- Choose the door layout. Single door for anything up to about 30 inches, double or triple above that, or a pair of cabinets over a double vanity.
- Match the finish and the hinge side to the vanity and to the way the door will swing in the room.
Matching a cabinet to a Blossom vanity
Blossom designs its vanity series around matching mirrors, medicine cabinets and side cabinets, and the product specifications say so explicitly on ranges including Bern, Annecy, Assisi and Positano. If your vanity is coming from our bathroom vanities range, start by checking which cabinet the series was drawn to pair with, rather than matching by width alone. The Blossom side cabinets and wall cabinets extend the same storage logic sideways when the mirror wall is already full, and Blossom wood-framed mirrors and LED mirrors cover the case where you want the light without the cabinet box.
For the non-Blossom routes, iStyle vanities pair with the Ana, Model 3 and AMC cabinets above, and white vanities and gray vanities are the two finish families most of these mirror fronts sit against.
Where the medicine cabinet sits in the rest of the bathroom
The cabinet is one of the last things specified and one of the first things a visitor sees. It reads against the vanity finish, the wall tile behind it and the fixtures beside it. If the whole room is being rebuilt, the order that causes the fewest surprises is layout first, then the vanity, then tile, then the mirror wall. Our bathroom tile range and shower tile range hold the wall finishes; bathroom sinks, bathroom faucets, toilets and shower doors cover the fixtures, and bathroom accessories and the Blossom accessory range cover the hardware that follows.

See them in a showroom
Mirror finish and light quality are difficult to judge from a photograph, which is the main argument for seeing a lit cabinet switched on before you buy. Home Craft Studio has four locations: Clifton, NJ, Newark, NJ, North Bergen, NJ and Brooklyn, NY. The full list with hours is on the locations page.
You can book a free consultation, ask our design team to lay the mirror wall out with the vanity, or send the room measurements through the contact form for a quote. We also run a price match guarantee, financing and a contractor program for trade accounts.
Frequently asked questions
What is the standard size of a medicine cabinet?
There is no single standard. The most common widths in this collection are 24 and 30 inches, with 14 models at each, followed by 20 inches. Heights cluster between 26 and 32 inches and depths run 3-3/4 inches recessed to about 5-1/4 inches surface mounted. The full range here runs 12 to 72 inches wide.
Can every cabinet here be recessed?
Most can. The Blossom LED series, the Blossom MC7 and MC8 aluminum cabinets and the iStyle AMC, Ana and Model 3 ranges all publish both a surface mount and a recessed dimension, and the MC series ships with hardware for both. What decides it is the wall, not the cabinet: cavity depth, stud spacing, and whether plumbing or ductwork runs through the bay.
How deep does the wall opening need to be?
The recessed depth published for these cabinets is 3-3/4 inches on the iStyle AMC and Ana series and 4 inches on the Blossom LED series. A standard 2x4 interior partition gives you roughly 3-1/2 inches of cavity, so the cabinet body sits partly within the drywall thickness. Measure your own wall before cutting.
Does a medicine cabinet need its own electrical circuit?
An LED cabinet needs power at the wall. The iStyle LED cabinets are specified for 110V wiring, and the Ana series includes a three-hole outlet on the unit. Wiring and GFCI protection are governed by local code, so have a licensed electrician confirm the circuit for your bathroom. A mirror-door cabinet with no lighting needs no power at all.
What is a mirror defogger and is it worth it?
It is a heating element behind the glass that keeps condensation off the mirror. It is worth it in a bathroom with a shower and limited ventilation, and close to pointless in a powder room. Fifty-four cabinets here are LED models and the Blossom and Lexora LED ranges include a defogger; on Blossom it has its own on/off control and shuts off automatically after 45 to 60 minutes.
Which LED color temperature should I choose?
4000K neutral white suits most shared bathrooms. 3000K warm white reads softer against wood and brass. 6000K daylight is the most accurate for grooming and make-up. The iStyle LED cabinets offer all three; the Blossom LED series is fixed at 8500K with adjustable brightness. All of the lit models here are CRI 90 or above, which is what keeps skin tone and color looking true.
Do you carry medicine cabinets near me in New Jersey or Brooklyn?
Yes. The range is shown at our Clifton, Newark and North Bergen showrooms in New Jersey and at our Brooklyn store in New York, and we deliver and install across the surrounding area. Book a visit through the appointment page.
Can I match a medicine cabinet to my vanity?
Blossom builds its vanity ranges with matching mirrors, medicine cabinets and side cabinets, and names the compatible pieces in the vanity specification. For other brands, match on width, finish family and hinge side. Our design team will lay the two out together if you send the vanity model and the wall dimensions.
